McDONNELL CHALLENGE FRONT PAGE NEWS

It's not often that the Left is front-page news but today's Mail On Sunday is seething with speculation that John McDonnell  MP is to mount another challenge to Gordon Brown.

39 STEPS BACK TO LABOUR VALUES

Here's the list of the 39 tax rebels who won't be bought off by fudging and faux appeals to Party unity.

CALDER VALLEY BACKED BY STLP

I note that  STLP  - save The Labour Party  - is officially supporting   the calder valley resolution  on the leadership.

LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE ON AGENDA

Call  me  cynical. But strangely a  letter   apparently   asking  my CLP to confirm  its leadership threshold  resolution   never, er, reached   our   CLP Secretary.

WHERE'S THEIR MORAL COMPASS?

As time goes by, it becomes increasingly clear that the COMPASS "left" is a chimera. I keep seeing articles by Trickett and Cruddas ( usually with policies first espoused by the LRC) calling for a change of direction but when it comes to actually standing up and being counted what do they do ? Very little.

LABOUR MPS STAND UP FOR AGENCY WORKERS!

I think that's what you call a result....,  backbench Labour MPs have backed Andrew Miller's bid to end the two-tier workfirce and give equal rights to agency workers. Which will make it very, very difficult for the Government to listen to the hysterical voices of the CBI and try and weasel its way out of ensuring that the growing number of temporary and agency workers enjoy the same rights as permanent staff. We don't need a "Commission", we just need this long overdue legislation to be implemented ASAP. And here's the full list of MPs who backed it , which I notice includes Peter Hain......Alun Michael, Fiona MacTaggart and EVEN Sion Simon. Way beyond the "usual suspects", Gordon..... so you'd better start  listening.
The message couldn't be clearer......here are the MPs who at last are giving us some hope things   may change  in the future......

LET'S PLAY FAIR IIN NEC DEBATE

I'm appalled to note the  level of personal vitriol being thrown at  John Wiseman in the wake of his decision to stand for the NEC.

REMEMBER MEMBERS, SAYS McDONNELL

My CLP voted overwhelmingly last night against Brown's plans to abolish contemporary resolutions. Many others I know have submitted thoughts along similar lines as part of a "consultation" which has been railroaded through without proper  consultation.

Tony Benn urges "No" vote for Gordon's plan

I would urge any  delegates  wondering why the move by Gordon Brown to stop voting  on contemporary resolutions   at Party Conference is such a bad idea to read today's piece by Tony Benn on Guardian Comment Is Free.  Here's an extract......

Cruddas teams up with McDonnell to back Trade Union Bill

Very glad to report that Jon Cruddas is venturing out once more beyond the comfort zone of COMPASS. Since almost getting the deputy leadership Cruddas has been very quiet

More Nightmares From Gordon Ramsay

Comrade Brown should be reminded what he said in Bournemouth  2003. I was there. I clapped loudly. Was he just having a laugh, then? It certainly seems that way.

Gordon....Ramsay?

What on earth is a LABOUR PM doing inviting more Tories into his team. Not just any old Tories, either. None other than Patrick Mercer, who quit as shadow homeland security spokesman after a row over alleged racist comments, ie calling someone a "black b******d" is to advise Lord West on security matters. Jack Straw, then the leader of the Commons, said Mr Mercer's comments were "breathtaking and dreadful". Wonder what he makes of this, then.

CALDER VALLEY SELECTION NEWS!

Guess what.......like Nottingham  South we were all set to go and, er, it's been called  off.

FIGHT TO SAVE PARTY CONFERENCE

Gordon Brown plans to destroy the last pitiful shreds of meaningful debate at Labour Party Conference. Under proposals now out for consultation ( which completely by-passed the NEC by the way) members are being asked to consider plans to end our ability to move contemporary and emergency resolutions at annual Conference

DIGBY STILL A TORY

Sir  Digby Jones freely  admitted  on  PM that  he might not even  vote labour   at the next election. What  an outrage.

WHERE'S CRUDDAS ?

Gordon brown   said he wanted a  "government of all the talents." Clearly, the only talents  he is interested in are those of the extreme Labour right.

STRAW MAN FOR DPM?

Stories now being leaked to the media suggest that Gordon Brown will make  Jack Straw Deputy Prime Minister if none of the other DL  candidates comes through with a clear mandate.

LABOUR HOME DEAD?

Is this website dying on its feet thanks to the deputy leadership election?

Launch of Calderdale CND

Good turn-out  tonight for launch of Calderdale CND.About 70 people on a  hot Friday night.NOT ONE who supported Trident.

WEST YORKSHIRE BROWNED OFF?

Over  200  CLPs failed to nominate Gordon Brown. Most, possibly, because they saw no point as it was a one-horse race.
